Report highlights superb effort from research community

A recent report looked at the value of proposals submitted and awards received by major sponsor group from 1st August 2015 to 29th February 2016.

The value of awards received so far in the period is very encouraging standing at £27m, which has already outstripped the performance for the same period last year by £13m. The highest value comes from Europe with £9.8m of funding received, representing 36% of the total, followed by funding of £5.8m from RCUK, representing 21% of the total.

The number of proposals submitted totals an impressive £135m, ahead by £65m on last year’s activity. This level of proposal activity augurs well for conversion to award success.

Swansea University received three significant research awards (greater than £1m) during this period (M2A Materials Manufacturing, Beacon+ and SPECIFIC 2) and there is great optimism that we will achieve more high value awards by the end of July 2016. This success has been achieved against an ever increasing competitive funding environment and is a reflection of a lot of hard work by colleagues within the Swansea University research community.
